2020 - Coronavirus Update

The health, social and economic impact of coronavirus, or COVID-19, cannot be understated.

At Headway Norfolk and Waveney, we understand that the ever-changing environment, in which social change is happening at an unprecedented pace, is causing significant concern to individuals and families affected by brain injury.

We are incredibly grateful to our brilliant staff and volunteers who have worked so hard during this crisis, and want to thank them for their commitment. We are also thankful for all clients and family, who have helped keep the Headway spirit going strong!

Here is some of the feedback we received:

“I'm grateful for my mentor phoning me three time a week as it helped me to cope though these hard time. One week my mentor phone every day because I was fining it hard she encourage me to walk my dog and to do other things to keep my mine active. I was missing my mum and my children and our chats help me get though that.”- Client

“I have enjoyed chatting to my mentor three times a week, as I live with my elderly parents and they have their telly loud which make it hard for me because of my hearing so I go to my bedroom a lot. I have really enjoyed receiving the work each week I spend two hour a day busy doing the work.” – Client

“I think Headway has been the only thing that has supported through all this.”- Carer

“I've got all the time for Headway, you've helped with everything. They've helped my brother to keep things normal for him.”- Carer

Next steps

We have gradually begun re-opening our centres, taking infection control seriously working in-line with the latest guidance. As you would expect we are having to make a number of changes to the way we work. There are differences in how the centres are run, but it is the same enthusiastic teams to welcome clients back.

Despite significant financial challenges, we are determined to continue supporting those affected by brain injury during Covid-19 and beyond. Now more than ever Headway’s work is vital to the community, their practical and emotional support is just as important now than ever before.
