Headway Norfolk and Waveney Announces Closure of Services for Brain Injury Survivors
Headway Norfolk and Waveney, a local charity supporting individuals affected by brain injuries, has announced its closure after more than 30 years of supporting those in need in our region.
Following an extensive review of its operations and financial position, the charity has made the difficult decision to close due to significant and sustained financial pressures and a challenging fundraising environment.
The charity currently operates Day Centres, Outreach Support and Peer and Carer Support Groups across Kings Lynn, Norwich, Dereham, Long Stratton and Great Yarmouth. These services are expected to close on 30th November 2025.
A Focus on Supporting Clients and Staff during a Difficult Time
The charity’s CEO, Claire Boothby-Barnbrook, explained:
“This decision was not made lightly. We have spent the last few months exploring all our options for sustaining our services, but ultimately we could not find a long-term viable solution to our financial difficulties. Our Board of Trustees understands the very real impact that this will have on the 195 individuals living with brain injuries that we currently support, as well as their families and carers. We are working closely with Norfolk County Council and other partners to ensure support is provided at this difficult time and to help with identifying alternative services. We are also supporting our colleagues who are deeply saddened by this news. They are hugely committed to our mission of supporting individuals and families affected by brain injuries and are also impacted by this decision.”
What This Means for Clients
All our clients will be contacted directly and their ongoing support needs discussed with them. We will provide updates on alternative services as soon as possible.
“We understand that change can be unsettling,” added Boothby-Barnbrook. “We want to reassure our clients, their families, and the community that we will do everything we can to ensure they feel supported during this transition. We are incredibly grateful for the support of our clients, supporters, and partners and our priority now is to ensure as smooth a transition as possible for our clients and colleagues”.
