Headway Norfolk and Waveney was delighted to welcome the East of England Co-op Community team to its support group recently. Prior to their visit, the independent co-op, which operates Food stores, Funeral Services and Travel branches across East Anglia, generously awarded a £2,500 grant to support a programme of community activities and local outings for people living with brain injuries in Norfolk, through their Community Cares Fund. The charity also received additional funding through its Local Giving scheme in which store colleagues nominate a charity to raise money for.
Set up in 2020, the Community Cares Fund provides grants to initiatives which address community cohesion and integration. So far, the fund has directly helped more than 146,000 people across East Anglia.
Angela Carpenter, Community Support Manager at East of England Co-op said: “We’re pleased to have been able to support Headway with a grant towards running their activities and outings for people with brain injuries. Our Community Cares Fund is all about supporting local projects which make a positive impact on people’s lives and together we’re helping build a brighter future for everyone”.

This funding will enable Headway’s dedicated team to facilitate a variety of enriching activities designed to help participants relearn essential skills, rebuild confidence, and reduce social isolation. The planned programme includes golf, trips to local attractions, birdwatching, and countryside walks.
Through these activities, participants will benefit from increased integration into the local community, improved collaboration, and enhanced organisational skills through activity planning. Additionally, the programme will contribute to better mental health and wellbeing, increased confidence, and improved executive function. The initiative will also play a crucial role in helping individuals adapt to life with a brain injury by re-establishing routines and fostering new and strengthened friendships and relationships.
Headway Norfolk and Waveney is committed to supporting individuals with brain injuries by providing tailored services that promote reablement and social inclusion. Thanks to the generosity of organisations like Co-op, they can continue to deliver impactful programmes that transform lives.
