Headway Boredom Buster 2020

Through these trying times, many charities have been faced with huge financial loss and are amongst the sectors that have been negatively impacted by Coronavirus. Headway Norfolk and Waveney are one of the charities that has seen the negative impact that Coronavirus has had, despite this, they have been working hard to raise funds to continue supporting those affected by brain injury. During lockdown, this is where Headway ‘Boredom Busters’ began to take shape.

Inspired by the isolation many of us felt during lockdown, Headway Trustee and previous client Paul worked with woodwork supervisor Roger to create the idea of a hand-made brain teaser puzzles to sell in local shops across Norfolk, not only to raise funds for the charity, but to inspire others to get creative at home. Paul explained that “as someone who has a brain injury, we often feel isolated from society, lockdown had increased these feelings which inspired me to create a boredom buster and bring others together during this strange time”.

The hand-made ‘Boredom Busters’ are made by Headway, they are pocket sized wooden brain teasers, with the aim to engage with everyone to solve the puzzle in the most creative and fun way. Headway hope to continue in uniting the community and want to encourage everyone to share a video or photo of them solving their brainteaser puzzle on social media, using the hashtag #HEADWAYBOREDOMBUSTER .

Not only can you purchase a Boredom Buster online, suggested donation at £5, many local shops in Norfolk will be selling them too, our etsy page is here.

Although Covid-19 has forced us to close centres across Norfolk, we are still supporting clients through regular phone calls as well as sending out packages to meet each individual’s needs. Online workshops have also been a huge success between support workers and clients. Now, more than ever, we need your support.

Headway believes in giving small to create a big impact, Laura Jones, Chief Executive at Headway Norfolk and Waveney has said that “over the passing weeks, it has been incredibly uplifting to see local businesses, workers and people join together to support their community. We are excited to launch Headway Boredom Busters and hope that people will support us and get creative.”
